The staff was amazing from management to room service. This is my new San Antonio hotel. The rooms were cool retro with modern ammenities. The pool was clean and nice. But really, the staff made the difference. None
Parking was $24.00 a day. There was no actual hotel parking. It was either metered parking or valet parking in a parking lot with no cover.
Location No valet or bellman on arrival
everyone was very accomodating and Grace upgraded our room to a king wich was wonderful
Very close to the river walk The pictures of the rooms I felt did not accuratley depict what we were given
This is an excellent hotel so close to the Riverwalk. Very clean. Nice decor. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to others.
location, location, location a few nit-picky things . . . iron was rusty, TV remote didn't work
The location is just terrific and allows you to walk to all downtown attractions, and we enjoy staying in historic hotels rather than the low-end or high-end chains, both of which are available in downtown San Antonio. The ground level garden and pool areas are nice, as is the spacious lobby. The the price is extremely modest for a downtown hotel in a major city. The old hotel could use some up-dating; it's a little worn out. Our elevator wasn't in perfect working order (the door was very slow and erratic about closing) and the historic "Rough Riders" bar still has smoke from Teddy Roosevelt's cigars in the walls.
closeness to the Alamo pay for internet access
The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff are commendable; the room was spacious and attractive; the location was convenient yet quiet. The restaurant was affordable. Clock and lamps were unplugged and hangers missing when we checked in. Restaurant buffet was ample but lacking in quality--food was lukeward, oatmeal lumpy.
Location is excellent. The bar was romantic and the beds super comfortable. Check in went smoothly with Stephan. We were in an ajoining suites and people with kids next door were very loud through the door. They checked out and the next night there were two couples partying very late at night. Bad nights for sleeping!!!!!
Nice dowtown location, close to the riverwalk. Room and bathroom was very small.
liked the location, liked the staff parking attendant, bell hop The air conditioner thermostat had a loud click then the fan noisily came on for about 30 seconds all day and night. the t.v. remote was not user friendly. It took about 5 minutes of running the water before there was any hot water.
$70 for overnight parking? In the same hotel you booked the rooms? That is ridiculously expensive.
The pool was not clean and the jacuzzi was not working. That was very disappointing. We were on a short get a way and were expecting to enjoy that.
Perfect accommodations close to the river walk! Breakfast down at the Market can get pretty pricey for a family larger than 2.
The staff was super friendly and very helpful.
The location is fantastic. Walking distance to great restaurants and bars. Beautiful hotel. Bar 414 in their lounge very cool speakeasy feel with an old movie playing. Really cool Everything was great
Beautiful glamorous Vegas like Lobby. Neat old blues lounge bar. Beautiful architecture and history. Fluffy White Bedding and Extra Pillows. Great location. 2nd Room was clean, spacious, and the AC cooled really well. Rooms on the parking garage side did not have as much Road Noise sound in the AM either. Early Morning Road Noise in 1st Room. A/C unit in first room didn't cool as well. Coasters that drink glasses sat on in first room were yellowed and yucky looking. 1st Room shower grout in window ledge needed scrubbed. Looked like mold growth. Light stain on bedding. Needed a little more vacuuming on room perimeter by bed. Average room accommodations. Disappointed no mini fridge in room to put drinks.
We really loved the room and furniture. You can tell the hotel is very old, but they keep it up to date. The king sized bed was very comfortable and so were the pillows. Our room was very clean. There were only a few small things we didn't like. One was the air conditioner was awesome and kept the room cool, but it was very loud when it turned on. Woke me up a time or two. Also the valet is quite expensive, but that's expected down by the river walk.
Loved the look, location, and luxurious feel. My kids kept talking about the "fancy" hotel they were staying at! Parking. I'm not a fan of having to pay for parking, but it seems inevitable in downtown San Antonio.
Beautiful hotel with charm and character. So close to everything and convenient for someone on foot/ for public transport/ for tours. Great pool. People working there were very nice - allowed late check out at 1:00pm. A bit noisy at night - one night it was loud drunk tourists, once it was random construction at restaurant in mall next door, & once the fire alarms went off. I don't think it's the hotel's fault though.
The Menger is very historic and literally right across the street from the Alamo. There are lots of things to do that are within easy walking distance that give you the San Antonio experience. The historic nature alone is worth the stay. We didn't get a room in the old, original, historic section. Our room was outdated and in need of renovation.
Central Location: Beautiful 150 year old historic hotel, literally across the street from Alamo, Numerous attractions, Riverwalk Mall, Ripley's, Wax Museum, Guinness Records, etc.... Short trolley ride to Historic Market. We used it as base of operations. Bought all-day passes to attractions and walked back to hotel to cool off/swim when needed. Lots of food nearby too. Hotel staff gave great service too. Kids loved all the museum like stuff in the hotel. The bar has a mirror with a bullet hole next to it they say Teddy Roosevelt shot in it on a bet when he was there recruiting his rough riders. Been here several times. It is our 'go to' spot for San Antonio. The parking is very expensive. Thirty dollars per day - but it is expensive in the entire city and you do have unlimited in and out privileges. The hotel is really old so it has a few rough edges. The pool tiling needs a bit of repair, some of the doors stick a bit, the elevators are small, floors are a little uneven and a bit sloped here and there, etc. It has a lot of "character", but I guess refurbishing an old hotel is like restoring an old car, you never quite manage to get all of the rattles out of it.
Location is excellent Beds are quite narrow. Air conditioning went out one night. Thankfully, it was repaired the next day.
Ordered breakfast off the restaurant menu. It was high priced and the portion size was small. 1 breakfast taco with sides was $16!
We liked the Menger Bar, very authentic. The lobby and public areas were very inviting. Long walk to the elevators. Ice machine was out of order.
The historic portion of the hotel is beautiful! Rooms are small, full size bed... but very nice and very clean. I would like to suggest that better quality sheets be used on the bed... sheets were way to big, so they tangled up at your feet. The beds are not the most comfortable to begin with and the sheets only made it worse.
that it was close to everything They didn't tell me about 20$ parking day, they didn't tell me 100$ deposit would be needed.
San Antonio's 1859 hotel was all it promised. Perfect central location next to the Alamo, and the Menger Hotel itself is rich in history, generously displayed throughout the building. The room itself was just fine, but I am interested mostly in the ambience outside the room (so long as the beds, showers and such are good). We will return. One note of special interest: the maid was a great source of info; cheerful and helpful! The view from the window? - a wall! Next time we will ask for a courtyard or other external, interesting view. Otherwise, all was well.
If you want a little history stay, this place is it. This place is great old school hotel with the oldest bar in town. Has a nice pool and inner garden to chill. Nice helpful staff Rooms were clean and large. The shower could have stronger flow and pool service coming around a bit (there is a phone to place order) but that is not a big deal. Location is perfect - Riverwalk starts right here and Alamo is a cross the street Can't open windows in the room (the old bulding) Shower has weak water flow
Historical, legendary hotel - also comfortably contemporary ... Plus, the staff at the front desk was polished and helpful. They made us feel they were serious about our enjoyment of the hotel. Would have liked to have stayed another day to enjoy more of the amenities, such as the Menger Bar and its TR Rough Riders connection. Note: You really need a "none of the above" category for the second question on who was in your party -- none of those definitions fit. This was frustrating and I almost didn't write this review, but decided to submit it by checking "group of friends" even though it's wholly inadequate to describe my party, which was me, my sister, and mother, and my sister's boyfriend.
We liked the location so much!! Just besides the Alamo, and the hotel is nicely preserved!! You can see the age of the hotel in the rooms! The bathroom was extremely small but usefull. The valet it's on the expensive side!!
Centrally located in Downtown, you are minutes from most sites and right on the scenic river walk. Nice and helpful staff will greet and assist you. sound proofing. With construction across the street waking you up at 6:40 am, easily hearing the conversations of others in the hall ways and flushing of toilets, sleep was easily disrupted. shower tub and carpet had stains/not fully cleaned. bathroom fixture groves had visible dust collected. really small pool, not sure if its that i'm from Miami, Fl where there is many pools. its about the size of the elevator hallway and maybe 4 ft deep.
Rooms clean. Easy access to riverwalk. All employees helpful and friendly Nothing
The location right on the riverwalk is excellent! Hotel is very nice and staff is very friendly! Would definitely stay again in the future. My only compaint about the hotel is the cost of parking. Valet parking is $40 and self parking is $30 per night. Very expensive. If you stay a few nights parking ends up costing you as much as an additional night's stay.
Fabulous location, very friendly staff who were very accommodating. Excellent bronch every morning. Wait staff in the restuara to were friendly and helpful. Room was a reasonable size but bathroom was a little bit worn. On the one day we forgot to leave a tip, the cleaning staff did a less than adequate job cleaning the room.
Location was wonderful, room was clean Hotel was dated. Too expensive for what we got. Upon return to our room we discovered our AC was not working. Front desk sent up a tech but he couldn't fix it. So they gave us a fan.... No one from mgmt contacted me and no apologies. Just nothing. I paid less for my room at the beautiful La Cantera the night before.
The view of the room was amazing! Enjoy time on the top level pool with an amazing view of the city. Construction on the second floor during the day.
Convenient to Alamo & other attractions! Easy entry!
Everything, but the outdoor smoking areas were in direct sun or behind pool area that had no air.
From the complimentary brunch at Ruth Chris, to the friendliness of the staff, i am impressed everytime i come here.
The staff was very friendly, helpful, and professional. Train noise in the early morning hours outside the hotel and noisy visitors next door and down the hall.
Hotel had lots of activities planned for families and kids, including egg hunt and wake up call by the Easter bunny. Super friendly staff and very clean. Excellent access to the mall and food court area for those that like different tastes on a budget, but also quick access to very nice restaurants as well. Some of the activities were at the other Marriott across the street
Near Convention Center. Bathroom was not clean.
How close it was to the river walk. The smell on our floor and room size.
The hotel was great and the staff was nice as well by accommodating you with the services and room. We had a great view and we could just walk downstairs to the river walk. The river walk was close but the places we wanted to go to were further than expected. Overall the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter was great especially since it has a mall right down stairs. I did not like that you had to pay for parking. Your paying a price you would think that that would be included. Also there was no mini fridge in the room for food.
Location, easy to find, by riverwalk. Oh, the people working there, OUTSTANDING IN EVERY ASPECT! Nothing, would stay there if the prices were better!
Excellent hotel with a nice view of the Riverwalk. The room and restaurant were first class and the staff was very helpful. Well worth the money The only problem we saw was around the pool where there was debris and refuse but there were also a lot of inebriated people there when we got there which might account for stuff on the ground and in the pool.
Yes The view
Great Stay! Room was clean, spacious, and beds were comfortable.
Room, location, close to activities All good
Beautiful room friendly staff
The hotel has a great location on the riverwalk in a quieter area next to the mall. The room we had (handicap) was very large, and the bed was comfortable. The lobby was nice, there was a starbucks in the lobby, and the food at the bar and restaurant were good. This was one of the biggest hotel disappointment I've had in the past. year. I traveled over 200 days in the past year and stayed at quite a few different hotels, so I don't say this lightly. When we first walked into the room (905 handicapped) the bathroom stood out as an eyesore. It was at least 5-10 years past when it should have been renovated. The grout was multiple different colors that made it look like it could be moldy, the wallpaper was peeling from the walls, and there was a general lack of craftmanship in the way it was constructed. The final straw was when I went to take a shower, and the shower head connection was leaking and spraying water in all directions. It wasn't just a loose connection, because I was unable to stop the leak. This is something a guest should never have to deal with at a chain like the Marriott. I asked the front desk to be transferred, but because it was a busy time the only available room was the room below us (805). This bathroom was in slightly better condition, although there were a few cracked and chipped tiles. Although the shower head worked, it was a very low end and cheap looking model. The bigger problem was when my wife tried to take a shower the first night, she was unable to maintain a constant water temperature. It would alternate between cold and very hot. She showed me how red her feet were, and I can only imagine what sort of a problem this could pose to an elderly or handicapped person. The other problem was the terrible tv reception while we were trying to watch the sugar bowl in our room. It would constantly blur or pause, making it nearly impossible to watch the game. Fortunately or unfortunately, the reception on the large tv's at the bar was fine. In summary, this is not the type of property I would expect for a Marriott. For the time around the new year the value wasn't bad (just under 200) however I would have preferred to spend 50% more on a room that looked like it had been renovated in the past 10-20 years. In the past year the only time I have experienced bathrooms in this sort of condition were in $50 rooms in towns with less than 5000 people. Buyer beware.
Bad irons . . . One spat red stuff with the steam function . . . the replacement was dirty. But the staff replaced them no problem
The staff was amazing upgrading us for free to accommodate our requests. Couldn't be more convenient for the River walk.
Very nice location no AC in hallways, bedroom ac did not work that well. Needs to be updated for sure.
Everything. Breakfast on the riverwalk, emaculate rooms, stylish old style bar with knowledgeable bar tender. If you hear the alarm, call the front desk. It's a parking garage across the street. They don't own it. It shuts off quick, but the front desk won't hear it, so call them .
Staff and rooms
Lovely looking. Nearness to everything on riverwalk. We paid extra for double beads, with taxes, extras, etc. and paid 300$ with discounts. It was an inner room with no view/ window.
Location is everything. The Omni La Mansion is in a perfect location on the riverwalk without the crowds of the convention hotels. The service was top notch and the food was fabulous.
Love the balconies over the river walk, historic character of the building and that it's pet friendly. Enjoyed listening to the church bells in the pool court yard (we were there on Easter Sunday morning). Had to pay for wifi. Verizon cellular service barely worked in our room, cell & text functioned poorly, data did not work, so we did not have internet access during our stay.
It is located right on the riverwalk. Very good staff and comfortable rooms. My room was on the street side and the traffic was very loud. I would recommend a room on the river or interior part of the building.
Good location and friendly staff Very old hotel. Our first room had a broken faucet. Second room was better but needed updating. A ton of road noise and party people on Friday night. Very expensive especially the breakfast buffet which could have been larger for the price.
Courteous and friendly staff. Personal attention to each patron. Well maintained rooms and facility. Atmosphere is great.
The good news is that the hotel is right on the River Walk, so you're right in the heart of the action. If you're looking for action - this is the place to stay. The bad news is that the hotel is right on the River Walk so you're right in the heart of the action. A lot of noise from the River tour boats and people, so if you're looking for quiet - this isn't the place.
This hotel is extremely clean! The rooms have wood like laminate which is so nice compared to gross hotel carpet!! The staff was really friendly. I loved the location on the Riverwalk. I would stay here again!
Nothing. Didn't even stay there I requested two suites, only got two regular rooms. Charged me for two suites. I cancled the rooms and never got my money back. Horrible experience
Sleeping in the bed. The outrageous parking fee. $62. For a 24 hour period. I didn't need the room serviced but I did put my full trash can just outside the door in the am and it was still there when we checked out at 4:30 pm. The room was fine but not worth $250 a night. I thought it would be something special for that kind of money.
The room was very comfortable, including the bed and pillows. We asked housekeeping in the hall on our way out for more pillows and not only was the gal we spoke to obliging, but she asked if we wanted soft or firm. The pillows were waiting when we arrived back to the room. We loved that the flooring was not carpet...that gave the feeling of it being even cleaner plus it would make it more hypoallergenic or those with allergy problems. The icing on the cake was the complimentary bottle of champagne they delivered to our room for our anniversary. Not a thing!
The location was great, not right in the busiest part of the Riverwalk, but for the price it was a pretty short walk! The pool was small but nice. The rooms seemed fresh and new-ish. The staff was friendly and helpful. No free breakfast and the Coke I bought in the lobby cost $3, but for the price I paid for the room that wasn't a HUGE deal. The parking cost extra but that is normal for hotels on the Riverwalk.
I liked that it was clean, and comfortable. The location was perfect, allowed us easier access to the museums and the alamo. There staff was very friendly I really enjoyed my stay
It was right on the riverwalk. The maid never cleaned the room. When we got their the shower was dirty and the whole time we were their no one cleaned it. The pictures online made the room n pool look a lot bigger then what they really were.
Convenience of location. It indicated free parking in location amenities, upon arrival I was advised it was $31 valet parking and $15 parking but not overnight stay. So I paid around $50 in parking fees, within 3 days and that was not in my budget.
The rooms were great, and the housekeeping was so kind. We had a great experience, and were able to walk most places since the hotel was right on the riverwalk, and near restaurants. The front desk staff gave my kids balloons, and glow bracelets for the 4th of July- huge bonus! We were able to purchase our SeaWorld tickets through the hotel as well... for a discounted rate. It made everything smooth and easy for our visit to the theme park.
We stayed at this hotel for the San Antonio Marathon in November 2009. We booked it based on the price, the location (near the Riverwalk), and the fact that they had free breakfast. We arrived two days before the marathon to enjoy San Antonio. When we arrived, we were told that breakfast would be served beginning at 4:30 AM the morning of the marathon. What a pleasant surprise since we thought we'd miss breakfast that morning. The breakfast was pretty much the same each morning, but there was a variety of items -- eggs, sausage, make your own waffles, yogurt, bagels, English muffins, cereal, etc... This hotel is just a couple blocks from the Alamo and the Riverwalk. It is about a mile from Market Square, and maybe 1/2 mile from Tower of the Americas and La Villita. It is all within walking distance (even the Alamodome) Our room was quite roomy, including a full size fridge, a small stove, a small dishwasher, a microwave, high speed internet (free), and much more. It was actually a sui...
The room was great. Really close location to many attractions and restaurants. Really liked the atmosphere. Staff was excellent and really enjoyed the whole stay. Would definitely stay again.
We went down for my daughters graduation at Lackland AFB. I found the hotel comfortable and the staff very friendly. Great place to stay, close to the Riverwalk and Alamo, I was pleased with the room and would definitely stay there again if the opportunity arises.
Our trip to San Antonio was in celebration of our 50th Wedding Anniversay as a surprise gift from our kids, who made all arrangements including our stay at the Residence Inn - Alamo Plaza. We had the best time; the location was excellent, we found the overall appearance to be well kept and our room very clean...and to top off our wonderful accomodations, the staff at the RI-Alomo Plaza were simply wonderful. Being there for a week, with us coming and going so much throughout each day between site seeing trips, we were able to become acquainted with many of the staff and they were so friendly, helpful and personable; it gave the place a very comfortable home-away-from-home feel. We were so very pleased and appreciative of their wonderful hospitality; we didn't want to leave!
The Residence Inn Alamo Plaza proved to be an exceptional choice. The convenience of location was complimented by employees that were pleasant, personable and helpful; recognized immediately when checking in and experienced thoughout the week. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening strolls along the riverwalk and the excellent food choices to experience. Our room ( 1 bedroom) was spacious, well kept and quite comfortable to return to after a long day of touring the city and surrounding areas...very interesting and beautiful. Each day kicked off with a great breakfast at the Residence Inn and although we rented a car, several days we hopped on the trolley with stop offs at missions and other points of interest; a great way to tour the city and eliminate the stress of dealing with traffic and parking. A future return trip to San Antonio will absolutely include a stay at this Residence Inn.
Stay in this hotel was good.It is conveniently placed. It offered good room and breakfast.Staff was really good and helpful. But the blankets we got were stinking. When contacted to staff they have replaced but the replacement was also of same quality . Even the staff had accepted that it is of poor quality and careful washing is required.
We enjoyed our stay at the Residence Inn in downtown San Antonio. It was very close to the Riverwalk and the main downtown attractions. The room was clean and staff was very friendly. Breakfast buffet was good and had many options. We would revisit this hotel on our next trip to San Antonio.
The hotel was clean and quiet, and the staff was attentive and helpful. The breakfast each morning was good.
From the moment of check in with the vallets to the day of check out this hotel was amazing! Called and requested early check in and rooms next to each other for a bachelorette party and Jennifer set it up for me wonderfully! Then the night of our stay front desk Denise was very kind and the whole staff was just amazing! Couldn't have stayed a better place for our festivities! Loved it!
Although this hotel is in the process of renovations, we had a wonderful stay. Our rooms were immaculate and spacious. The complimentary breakfast buffet was delicious and had something for everyone. The social gatherings in the evenings were unexpected and most enjoyable.
The room was so much better than an average hotel room with a separate living room, kitchen, bedroom and bath. I felt like I was staying in a small apartment instead of a hotel. We had everything we needed and the hotel staff was exceptional! Everyone was so nice and accomodating! Next door to the Alamo and close enough to walk to the Riverwalk. The free breakfast was out of this world and I must say, I've never stayed in a hotel that offered free happy hour drinks/dinner Monday thru Friday. I hope to visit San Antonio again and if I do, I will definitely stay here. I won't even look around for another hotel.
The hotel was extremely roomy and very clean. However it was a little expensive to start. I wanted to check out at 3 pm instead of 12N. I was charged $* for 3 hours a little rediculous. I was spending the weekend with a friend from Fort Sam Houston. She didnt have to be back untill 8:30 so I was gonna let here stay and watch television; give her a break from the whole army thing. That was a whole day charge?!? Umm I am not the best at math but that 8 hours which is 1/3 of a day not a whole day. The hotel was maybe half full it was a monday. Serisouly, they didn't want to work with me and they charged me a higher rate for the 3 hours than the rate I booked through the online travel website. I will never tell anyone to stay at a marriott and I will never stay at another. All the other hotels I stayed at worked around you if they could, not this one!
Location Bathroom was filthy, the food in the restaurant was terrible
The staff was great. The rooms were clean. Even when house keeping forgot to clean our room twice, they sent someone over immediately to clean it up. The breakfast attendants were super friendly, especially Rudy. The breakfast could use better variety of fruit and swich the sausage with ham once in a while. The pool was so cold, I thought icebergs were forming.
- At $230 a night it was a below average hotel.
