The location is fantastic, being right in the middle of Xi'an. I was very happy with my room... a spacious feeling with super comfortable bed and pillows. The breakfast was okay... but not great. There wasn't much English spoken so it was hard to get information/advice about where to go (or to get a towel brought to my room. I tried 3 times and then ended up going down with a bath mat to act out what I needed!). The showerhead was leaking over the edges so it was more like a bucket being poured than the 'rain water' as advertised - I didn't really mind but some people might.
It was clean and close to the city wall/activities. This is not a 4 or 5 star hotel by western standards. At best it is a 3 star hotel. Additionally, when we checked in the front desk clerk took forever to check us in and continuously let other things interupt her while she should have been attending to us. The price for the breakfast and afternoon buffet at the hotel's restaurant is way overpriced with the limited selection they have. The bathrooms are outdated and small. The hotel didn't have electrical adapters for travelers. Additionally, when I called the front desk for an iron board it took 3 calls before someone understood what I was asking for. In fact, I even provide the Mandarin name for "iron" which is "tang" and the front desk person still didn't understand.
Good location, very friendly personnel, not a problem to communicate in English. Interesting building with internal yard.
swiming pool, Gym room and Staff who can speak English Staff
Overall did not match up to description on internet. Part of good hotel chain, but staff spoke very little English. Food in club lounge felt old.
room was smoke-free and not even smelling of smoke
Grand Mercure is associated with the Sofitel. When we encountered an issue with our room's electrical problem, we were immediately moved to a very up-scale room in the Sofitel. Even though the price was more than the Grand Mercure, the price given was as if at the Grand Mercure. Our compliments to Amelia the Sofitel manager. Close proximity to sightseeing in the downtown area.
The staff responded quickly to my requests. First we were put in a smoking room with burn marks on the carpet even though I reserved a non-smoking room. We were switched to another room, but carpet was still old and dirty. Beds were the most uncomfortable I have ever slept in. The hotel did not have heat so my room was cold. I specifically chose this hotel because the website said it had a children's playroom. When we asked about it, the staff told us there is no playroom. If I had known this, I never would have reserved a room at this hotel. I was extremely disappointed and upset. I will not stay at the Grand Mercure again. Definitely not a 5 star hotel.
Staff quality was very high. Quiet hotel, near the city center. top quality of different services. Very good hotel. No negative comments
Quick check in. Location was pretty good. Room was clean and tidy. Room a bit small. Bathtub leaked, but not my problem.
Excellent location, nice hotel and very comfortable.
This hotel is the perfect choice of staying in Xian. Very nice enviroment, luxury, perfect cooperation with the staf. It was great staying there.
The size of the room was great, service excellent, very good breakfast, but location at the far end of the square and not so close to city life is a small handicap, easily overcome by the price...Seems to me perfect for seminar or congress As above, location is not ideal when you go in and out...
good location, friendly and helpful staff
The location was pretty good. Walking distance to the Bell Tower and Muslim Quarter. . The breakfast buffet was good, It was also reasonable, but we went in the low tourist season. The staff was helpful. The rooms were average, but comfortable. I would stay here again.
Strange bathroom arrangement with toliet and shower.
The best thing about the hotel was the value we received for our money. The room was beautiful, on a high floor (10), an excellent buffet breakfast was included, access to the club lounge (coffee, tea, water, cookies, computers available) was included, cable access to internet was available in the room, and several dining and drinking options were available on the lobby level. Did not like that there were no convenience stores to purchase a bottle of wine or chocolate nearby. Also, the toilet did not flush that well, and it took a long time to refill the tank.
One of the best hotels I have ever stayed. A hotel in China which serves three kinds of Birger Muesli at breakfast is definitely topnotch. Also good croissants and great fried rice with beef (also for breakfast). Perfect beds and spotless. Reception and concierge helped me out with some small matters! Dark hallways and tasteless hotel design. Next time they should try fresh young dutch or scandinavian designers.
Excellent accomodation, large room with nice bathroom, friendly staff. Good food in the available hotel restaurants. Executive service is very good and value for money. (breakfast and happy hour) The location of the Sofitel is at a prestigeous lane / square but you cannot just walk out for a meal or shopping. The nearest by shops and restaurants are a 20 minutes walk from the hotel so you need transport to go there (which is available at low prices (tuktuk type of transport). Another thing, we had looked forward to visit the Japanese "Koi " hotel restaurant, but during golden week early October they closed half of the hotel Sofitel restaurants, and Koi was not open.
Room Service was excellent, Room very comfortable and Hotel staff wonderful.
Beautifully designed comfy rooms, breakfast was great and moroccan food main courses was great too
The staff are very helpfull. I got ill during our stay and they arranged a doctor immediatelly and were very helpfull. They also upgraded us.Food is excellent and facilities are great and the hotel is very central. Only that when they say the breakfast closes at 10h30 they mean it and will start cleaning and removing things around you 5 minutes before the time and clearing off the buffet.
The comfort of the room and the quality of the fittings The price of extras
Central to everything. Easy access. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very comfortable in every way. We stayed another night. Swimming pool was out of order. Ladies spa was out of order. Mens Spa water was too cold. Steam room was far too hot it could not be used. Showers drains were blocked causing flooding. Poor. Hopefully this was a one off.
the hotel is form the top of the offer poor (sound) isolation of the room
Quality of the hotel room. Services & Facilities. Service in restaurant
a luxury hotel with a rich delicious buffet
Excellent location near Wild Goose Pagoda and open-air strolling areas, fountain show, restaurants. The hotel has beautiful traditional Chinese courtyards and evening live music (western music on Chinese traditional instruments). Ground floor rooms have a terrace and sitting area facing the courtyard. Room comfort was ok to ok+, room on the small side, bathroom very cramped and shower just adequate. Staff minimally helpful! Initially putting us In a smoking room after asking us what we preferred. Cup of coffee 10 dollars if not at breakfast time. Wifi inadequate except for email, but this was true in every hotel we stayed in in China. Not able to accommodate an early breakfast (6:45 am, 15 minutes before their breakfast hours).
Staff was great. They upgraded my room without asking which was a pleasant surprise. Front desk kind and bell hops freindly. Hotel was very good but the restaurants were very expensive. The breakfast overpriced and the Brazilian rest was very, very overpriced.
Very good location, one bus stop from downtown Xi'an with plenty of bus options (16, 35, 29, ...). Very close to the South Gate and the Bell Tower. Clean rooms, spacious and good bathroom. Note that a deposit has to be paid in advance (total sum of the stay) which will be refunded at check out. Make sure that the confirmed cost on booking.com is the actual cost on the final invoice. Due to a lack of transparancy on this website (extra service costs, other currency options, ...), you will have to pay more than actually confirmed. Off course, this has nothing to do with the hotel, but all with booking.com. Also, if you pay in RMB (local Chinese currency) the exchange rates might have changed in the meanwhile.
The hotel was lovely. The breakfast buffet was generous and very nicely done with dishes from every part of the world to make the international traveler feel comfortable. The room was very comfortable, spacious and well-appointed. The staff seemed somewhat inexperienced, particularly, the wait staff in the hotel restaurant. However, they were very pleasant, so it was easier to overlook shortcomings. The dinner restaurant was not to my liking, but would likely be just fine for the local high-end diners. The choice of dishes were a little more local than I might enjoy. The hotel staff, while very nice, seemed somewhat inexperienced.
The room was spacious and there was always plenty of stafff on hand Internet was only free if you have a wireless laptop which you can use in the lobby. Otherwise, in your room or the business centre, it was very expensive.
The room was a comfortable size room. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean and tidy. The view out our window had a good view of the city. It was a comfortable stay. Their was a strong foul smell coming from the bathroom which was unpleasant. This could be due to the drainage and not actually the uncleanliness of the the bathroom. The pillows were too high and this did give me a sore neck from sleeping on. Also the location was a bit too far from the main attractions.
The position and the concierge staff were excellent. The hotel car and driver were also fantastic and definitely the best way to get out to see the Terracotta-Army and other sites. Their exchange rate from USD to RMB was very poor and so the cost was higher than anticipated from the booking.com reservation rates. It would be better if they published their rates in the local currency rather than USD. The bathroom could do with updating, it was getting a bit tatty.
The staff was very helpful.
Notthin! As experienced travelers in China we can say that we didn’t like anything! Starting with the staff attitude (rude – in all aspects and with very poor English). low hotel maintenance and dirty. Defiantly not a five stars hotel as rated, maybe a two starts hotel even in local standards. Toilet broke, stains everywhere, even in public areas. The lobby toilets disgusting – dirty, stinky no toilet paper or soap and hand towels. The reasons we have chosen this hotel were the rating (stars), location, facilities and then price. Considering the reality this hotel is overpriced and rated.
facilities OK the indoor pool water was cold in late September
the staff and the comfort. it was by far the nicest hotel i stayed at since in China. the location is good too - close to the Islamic quater and the Bell and Drum tower. I would recommend it to anyone who cares about comfort and is ready to pay a little extra for comfy beds, fast internet and great room service. Also there is a souvenir shopping arcade where you will not be cheated. at the check out there was a misunderstanding regarding payment. but that happened almost everywhere else in China....
Room facility clean and new. Governmental supervision on internet connection.
We enjoyed the swimming pool very much. lso the hotel restaurant has a nice mix between east and west.
The king size bed, hbo, cnn and a swimming pool. Some of the staff was a little surly.
Hotel staff was very friendly, hotel is great value for money.
Hotel did not honor the price quoted by Booking.com and rasied the price when I checked in. I had to cancel this booking and rebook with the hotel to save money, but still paid more than the booking price!
nice big bed and rooms staff were a little unorganised it seems as if everyone had just started the week we arrived, spa facilities were closed to our female travellers
